From the Machine Shop to the Robot

CNC machining is used to make precise parts for industries including aerospace, automotive, medical devices, advanced manufacturing, and robotics.

FLYT 2290 uses the same technology to build our competition robot.

This season, our students CNC machined aluminum and polycarbonate parts for the robot’s intake, shooter, turret, protective walls, and other components.

At the workshop, you’ll see how a design on a computer becomes a finished part and how those same skills are used to build a competition robot.

What You'll Do

  • Learn how CNC machines turn digital designs into real parts
  • See how CNC machining is used in advanced manufacturing and engineering
  • Operate a CNC machine under direct supervision
  • Machine your own aluminum part
  • Meet FLYT 2290 students and mentors
  • See our 120-pound competition robot up-close
